Call to Action Bill 13 An Act to Return to the Crown Certain Rights Relating to Wood Supply and Forest Management

This Wednesday June 3rd 2015 at 2:30pm Bill 13 An Act to Return to the Crown Certain Rights Relating to Wood Supply and Forest Management will be read a second time. Now is our opportunity to show strength and support. Your presence at the Legislature and the gallery is important.

You may take this second reading as an opportunity to respond in whatever way works for you or your group. The media should be in the vicinity.

The purposes of the bill are to:

  • Restore the ability of the Minister of Natural Resources and Energy to exercise full responsibility for the development, utilization, protection and integrated management of the resources of Crown land in accordance with Section 3(1)b and 3(1)c of the Crown Lands and Forests Act;

 

  • Ensure that the Crown meets its obligation to consult and accommodate First Nations concerning any major changes to the use and management of Crown lands;

 

  • Safeguard Aboriginal and treaty rights held by First Nation communities in New Brunswick; and

 

  • Restore the ability of the Minister to encourage the management of private forest lands as the primary source of timber for wood processing facilities in accordance with Section 3(2) of the Crown Lands and Forests Act.

 

Details:

Mr. Coon will have 20 minutes to introduce, each MLA can speak for 15 minutes to the Bill, followed by 10 minutes closing remarks by Mr. Coon for a total of 120 minutes. To date we have not found and MLA to second our motion for a recorded vote. It will be voted on or referred to a committee.
