Fredericton – David Coon, MLA for Fredericton South and leader of the Green Party of New Brunswick is reminding the government on International Alzheimer’s Day of the urget need for a provincial dementia strategy.

In January the Council on Aging released a comprehensive set of recommendations: We are all in this together, designed to better the experience of aging in New Brunswick,” said Coon. “One highlight of the recommendations was the need to develop a provincial dementia strategy.”

More than 3,000 seniors living in private households suffer from some form of dementia. This number will grow as our population continues to age.

“Any provincial dementia strategy must focus on community based care, emphasizing early diagnosis, support for caregivers, and rapid access to nursing homes when needed,” said Coon.
