We will never forget: Statement by the Green party leader on Remembrance Day
Fredericton – MLA for Fredericton South and Leader of the Green Party of New Brunswick, David Coon, issued the following statement in recognition of Remembrance Day on Saturday, November 11, 2017:
“November 11th is a special day for Canadians as we remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country. Today we remember the brave service men and women who have died serving during times of peace and conflict. We remember their families and their sacrifice.
“To those we lost in Afghanistan and all the Canadians who have gone before, as well as those they left behind, we remember.
“This year we commemorated the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge where the Canadian Corps succeeded after a number of failed Allied attempts. The three-day battle began on April 9, 1917, where Canada lost 3,598 soldiers with 7,000 more wounded. France ceded 107 hectares of territory to Canada where our National Vimy Memorial still stands, acknowledging their sacrifice.
“Today I hope all New Brunswickers will participate in remembering the ones we have lost. They will never be forgotten.”
