Time for a Poet Laureate in New Brunswick

 

For World Poetry Day on March 21st, David Coon, MLA for Fredericton-South and leader of the Green Party is suggesting that Premier Gallant create the position of Poet Laureate for New Brunswick. Eight out of Canada’s 13 provinces and territories have poet laureates.

“If we can have a Chief Economist we certainly should have a Poet Laureate,” said Mr. Coon. “After all, New Brunswick is recognized as Canada’s poets’ corner. At times when we face great challenges we need a poet laureate to speak to our hearts and souls,” he added.
