Member’s Statement: Youth Mental Health
Mr. Speaker, twenty percent of youth experience mental illness, but only 1 in 5 receives help, making suicide the second leading cause of death in youth. The 2010 pilot programs to put Child and Youth Development Teams in the schools of Charlotte County and the Acadian Peninsula have had remarkable results, according to a presentation I heard last Friday by Bob Eckstein the program’s director. Our children and youth can’t wait until 2018 for this to be implemented province wide.
Mr. Speaker it needs to be rolled out at the beginning of the school year this fall, for the sake of our kids. Thank you, Mr. Speaker.
