Member’s Statement – Exporting Profits, May 28, 2015
Mr. Speaker, this government is behaving as if it has lost faith in New Brunswickers. The plan to contract out the management of food and cleaning services in our hospitals to a foreign corporation sends a terrible message with terrible consequences. We are going to fire public managers, allow some of our employees now providing food and cleaning services to be fired, and permit the wages of those that remain to be cut. And in return for any savings that might result to the public purse from the layoffs and cut in wages, we will accept that the corporate management company will export its profits out of the country, paid for from public funds. Mr Speaker. This is just wacko. With this approach, corporations are going to end up running more and more aspects of our lives for their own profit, not for the public good.
