Member’s Statement – The Cost of Alcohol Sales in NB – 3 February 2016

Mr. Speaker, the sale of alcohol in New Brunswick represents a net-loss of provincial revenue. Mr. Speaker, yesterday the CBC reported that Chartwells, a subsidiary of UK-based Compass Group will be discontinuing 12 school cafeterias in New Brunswick tomorrow because they are no longer profitable for them. When classes begin in January, students in Plaster Rock, Woodstock, Nackawick, Harvey, Keswick, Centreville, McAdam, Harvey, Fredericton Junction, Cambridge Narrows, Chipman and Barkers Point will be affected. Mr. Speaker, yesterday the Auditor General reported concerns with the New Brunswick Lotteries and Gaming commission. Unfortunately, the Atlantic Lottery Corporation already appeared before the Crown Corporations committee on November 17 and will not return until next fall.
