A Message on Universal Children’s Day
Fredericton – David Coon, MLA for Fredericton South and Leader of the Green Party of New Brunswick issued the following statement in recognition of Universal Children`s Day on Friday, November 20.
“The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child tasks governments with the responsibility to protect children from all forms of harm. I am pleased to see that the office of the Child and Youth Advocate has developed a strategy for us to do just that: Keeping Children and Youth Safe from Harm in New Brunswick
As one youth is quoted in the report: ‘For children and youth to reach their full potential they need to be able to grow in a safe environment. There needs to be openness and creativity. There needs to be communication and guidance. Children and youth need to have a sense of belonging and the ability to adapt to any given situation. Children and youth need to be resilient.’
The Child and youth teams that government established in Charlotte County and on the Acadian Peninsula are keeping children and youth safe in these regions. It’s time to put them in schools all across New Brunswick.”
