Green Party Leader flags flaws in NB cannabis framework

Fredericton – The Leader of the Green Party of New Brunswick and MLA for Fredericton South, David Coon, flagged concerns over the province’s cannabis legislative framework months ago that still have not been addressed.

“When this government was bringing its cannabis legislation through the House this past winter, I identified several important gaps, including a lack of restrictions on marketing directed at consumers under the age of 25 and the absence of any requirement to highlight the health risks at the point of sale. These gaps remain today.”

Coon proposed nine amendments to the five bills that comprise the cannabis legislative framework in New Brunswick. Only one of his amendments was supported to ensure that Cannabis NB is financially accountable to the Legislative Assembly.

“It is essential that all members elected to the legislature on September 24th collaborate to close the gaps in New Brunswick’s Cannabis Legislation,” said Coon.
