A Message on Remembrance Day
Fredericton – Following is a message from Green Party Leader and the MLA for Fredericton-South on the occasion of Remembrance Day, Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2015:
Today we remember all those who have died in the line of duty to Canada during wartime and while peacekeeping. Let us also remember, and never forget, those service men and women who have died after they returned home, as a result of their service in conflict zones. We remember their service, their sacrifice and their families.
Whether it is the men and women who lost their lives in Afghanistan or those who perished so long ago in the horrific trench warfare of World War One, we remember.
The photos of missing family members, the family stories of loss, and Remembrance Day itself create new memories for new generations so they can carry on the work of remembrance to honour the fallen and the families that have been forever changed by their loss.
“To you from failing hands we throw the torch; be yours to hold it high,” wrote Major John McCrae at the second battle of Ypres.
The torch we hold for all those who lost their lives in war and those who lost their lives because of war, burns brightly in the hearts of New Brunswickers and all Canadians today. May it light the way to peace for all.
