The Youth Employment Fund
Are you an unemployed or under-employed young person looking for work in New Brunswick? Are you a company or non-profit that would benefit from hiring a recent graduate for at least six months? If so, the Youth Employment Fund (YEF) might be exactly what you are looking for
The YEF is a youth-driven, work experience program designed to provide opportunity for youth to develop skills and find jobs in the province. The program provides funding to employers to hire a recent graduate and empowers youth to approach businesses, non-profit organizations, municipalities, government departments/agencies and First Nations to find work. By placing an individual with an employer, the youth may gain work experience and develop skills through basic workplace training, mentoring and coaching.
In order to be eligible for the program, individuals must be: between 18-29 years of age; legally entitled to work in Canada; a resident of New Brunswick; unemployed, underemployed or working less than 15 hours per week; and must not be a full-time student. To qualify, candidates must register with an employment counsellor through an online portal. They are matched with eligible employers in placements that last 26-weeks. Youth will work for 30 hours per week in jobs that match their career goals.
Employers must be located in New Brunswick and provide a quality workplace opportunity which includes orientation, coaching and mentoring. While the placements will be subsidized by the province at minimum-wage, employers may provide a top-up. In addition, up to $1,000 will be available for participants to cover costs associated with the job placement such as training, tools, special clothing or equipment.
Eligible youth and potential employers seeking to hire a recent graduate, can apply to the program at: http://www.nbjobs.ca/
